I would like to apologize to anyone who may be following this website for not keeping it up to date lately. Life has been so busy! My school is so demanding! At any rate, I would like to say two things:

If you are actually following this website, please let me know via email
There are many things going on in the world today (Haiti, Healthcare, Abortion, Global Warming, Anti-Americanism, Atheism, and many other issues). I would like to encourage you to keep up to date on the news. Then, you need to reflect upon the issue from a Christian point of view. Once you have arived at a Biblical conclusion regarding the issue, talk to people about it! Get others thinking about it!

Tomorrow is Obama's State of the Union Address. Please listen to it tomorrow. Please reflect upon what he has to say. Please pray about it. And then, after you have done all this, please write to your senator with any concerns. Pray for America! Pray that God would take His hand and transform America to what it ought to be!

If I don't post anything for a while, I am sorry. Life is just too busy to keep up a blog on a regular basis. If, however, you would like to keep updated with this blog for when I do update it, then I think that you can hit the RSS feed button at the bottem right of this page. Thanks for reading!

Senate Approval of Mikulski Amendment Further Opens Health Care Bill to Massive Federal Funding of Abortion

Washington, D.C. - Family Research Council President Tony Perkins responded today to the U.S. Senate's approval of an amendment authored by U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) to authorize the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to include abortion as "preventive care" in their guidelines. If HRSA decides to include abortion in its guidelines, then all group and individual health plans will be required by law to cover abortion.

"Sadly, the Senate voted today to further mandate inclusion of Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest network of abortion, in a national health care scheme," said FRC President Tony Perkins. "This is a breach of faith with the American people, roughly 70 percent of whom oppose federally-funded or -subsidized abortion.

"Last July, U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) queried Sen. Mikulski on a similarly deceptively worded amendment to ensure that Planned Parenthood's clinics, 295 of which perform abortions and all of which actively promote and refer for them (http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-center/abortion-services-abortion-referrals-25993.htm), are included in the bill's definition of community health services. When pressed, she admitted that her language would force health insurance companies to contract with abortion groups like Planned Parenthood. (see transcript below.)

"Because today's bill as written has no exclusion for abortion in its language, there is no doubt that Sen. Mikulski's amendment opens the floodgates to massive public underwriting of abortion, a position Planned Parenthood has always favored. Without the adoption of 'Stupak-Pitts' amendment language in the Senate version of the bill, it's now very clear that taxpayers will be forced to pay for abortions," added Perkins.

"Family Research Council applauds U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE) for opposing the Mikulski amendment and working with his pro-life Democratic House colleagues to protect the right of Americans not to be compelled to fund abortion," concluded Perkins.

July 9, 2009 transcript of Senator Orrin Hatch's exchange with Senator Barbara Mikulski:

HATCH: "...Would this include abortion providers? I mean, it looks to me like you're expanding it to... for instance, Planned Parenthood. Would that put them into this system?"
MIKULSKI: "It would include women's health clinics that provide comprehensive services and under the definition of a woman's health clinic, it would include, uh, it would include, uh, Planned, uh, Parenthood clinics. It would, um, it does not expand in any way expand a service. In other words, it does not expand, um, uh, or mandate abortion service."
HATCH: "No, but it would provide for them."
MIKULSKI: "It would provide for any service deemed medically necessary or medically appropriate."
HATCH: "Well, I would have a rough time supporting it on that basis. I just wanted to get that clarified. Thank you."
Later...
HATCH: "Madam Chairman, would you be willing to put some language in [about] not including abortion services? Then I think you would have more support."
MIKULSKI: "...No, I would not, uh, be willing to do that at this time."

Senator Reid's Weekend Warriors

For Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and his party, Saturday night is a date with destiny. He and his fellow Senators will take to the floor tomorrow evening at 8 p.m. (ET) for what's certain to be a primetime drama over the fate of the President's health care overhaul. What happens to the Senate's version for reform rests almost entirely on the motion to proceed, a procedural vote that requires 60 Senators' approval to pass. When asked about the Democrats' chances yesterday, Sen. Reid told reporters, "We will find out when the votes are taken." Even this morning, Sen. Reid has been coy about his chances for success--and rightly so.

Tomorrow night, the Senate leadership has absolutely no margin for error. The bill may only have the support of 35% of voters, but Sen. Reid will need 100% approval from his party--and then some--to jump the bill's first real hurdle. Without every Democrat and Independent on board, the motion to proceed will fail, closing the door on debate in next week's session. At least a dozen Democrats are feeling the heat from their home states on this issue, and each will be particularly vulnerable if they vote with Sen. Reid to proceed. They need to hear from you today! Most of the offices will be closed on Saturday even if there is action on the Senate floor. We need you to make the difference in this vote right now. Call your senators this afternoon and tell them that there's no reason to proceed on a bill that bankrolls abortion, hikes taxes, penalizes married couples, cuts Medicare, fines employers, and makes Washington the ultimate authority on patients' care! Safe School Czar: A Danger to Us All

With each new nominee in the Obama Administration comes more and more revelations on how they seek to undermine America's morals and economy. However no Administration official is more deserving of removal than Kevin Jennings, whom President Obama put forth to run his Safe Schools program at the Department of Education. What is Mr. Jennings' definition of a "safe school?" He has proudly boasted of an incident (when he was a teacher) in which upon learning that a young boy in his class was having sex with a much older man, he did nothing to discourage him. The only advice this future "Safe Schools" czar gave the young boy was "be sure to bring a condom."

Additionally, according to Mr. Jennings, it is heterosexuality that is the problem in our schools. In a speech that Kevin Jennings gave to a group in Iowa, he said, "Every time kids read Romeo & Juliet or they're urged to go to the prom or whatever it is, kids are aggressively recruited to be heterosexual in this country." Recruited to be heterosexuals? Does Kevin Jennings actually believe that a child's sexual orientation is the product of some educational conspiracy? The only conspiracy I'm aware of is Jennings' attempt to indoctrinate kids with a pro-homosexual agenda.

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) agrees. Earlier this week, he launched a campaign to oust Jennings (and his radical record) from the Department of Education. In a letter that he's circulating to his House colleagues, Rep. King tells the President, "There is more to safe and drug-free schools than can be accomplished from the narrow view of Mr. Jennings who has, for more than 20 years, almost exclusively focused on promoting the homosexual agenda."

He's taken up our cause -- now let's help him advance it. Contact your congressmen today and urge them to sign on to Rep. King's letter.
