Project Rep

Simply because we teens are not old enough to vote yet does not mean that we should not be active in addressing the issues that are at hand. Because what is going on today in Washington DC affects our generation more so than any other generation, we should be even more involved and even more interested in what legislation is passed. As soon as any of the legislation that is passed in Congress takes effect, we will be the primary individuals that are affected. Additionally, issues like Global Warming or Healthcare are said to be for our generation’s benefit. Therefore, because legislation is being passed on our behalf, we should be doubly concerned. We should be doubly concerned because they are deciding what is good for us and they are deciding that we must pay for what they decide to be best. If we do not take action regarding such issues, then we will find ourselves subjects to committees who do not have our best interests in mind.

My fellow Christian teens, in the not-so-distant past, our country was a country that both feared God as well as based its legislation off of principles that are taught in the Bible. However, as the Christian community has backed away from providing a balanced Christian perspective on matters, our country has stepped away from the balanced and relevant teachings of the Bible. The Bible tells us "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord" (ESV Psalm 33:12). Therefore, it is understandable why our country has gone to hash in the recent past with the absence of Christian input. Because we Christians are "the salt of the Earth," we are called to preserve the earth by being "lights unto the darkness." With our detachment from our nation in which we live, we take our saltiness with us. If our nation is to be completely devoid of Christian input, then how can our country claim the blessings that are reserved for “the nation whose God is the Lord”?

It is an unfortunate fact that in the recent past, our nation has been slowly slipping away from the ideals that made this nation great. It is unfortunate that our nation has been slipping into decay as it has been intentionally sterilized of Christianity. This is, sadly, the case however. Throughout the Old Testament, it is readily observable that as soon as Israel decided that they didn’t need God, they were struck with disaster. The wrath of God was not to be trifled with. When God demanded that we love Him first and love Him only, He meant it. Because God does not change over the ages, God’s will is still not a matter to be trifled with. We must still honor and fear the Lord. If we as a nation tread further down this path of humanistic relativism, our great nation will be brought to its knees. Just as all men will confess that Jesus is Lord either in this life or at judgment; our nation will be forced to do the same. Either we can confess that Jesus is Lord now, or we can wait to be humbled.

Therefore, as vivacious Christian youth with hearts on fire for Christ, we must contact our leaders. We must let them know that there is a Christian Youth who wants to be heard. We need to give them a Christian perspective on the matters that are direly important. Above all, we need to pray for our country. We need to pray that our leaders be blessed with wisdom. We need to pray for their souls. The Bible says that a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Therefore, simply letting them know what us Christians think is not enough. We need to pray that God would impress himself upon them and that he would cause a change in their lives that rocks their worlds. We need to pray that our President would be blessed with wisdom.
